Sleep Testing

Do you snore, or does your partner snore?

Poor sleep can be fatal, and lead to car accidents, strokes and heart attacks. It is also a major cause of high blood pressure, depression, obesity, type II diabetes, sexual problems, excessive urination at night, morning headaches and relationship problems.

Snoring is a sound caused by the vibration of the soft tissues of the throat. If the path of airflow is too narrow, or closes over, a snorer needs to make efforts to allow for air circulation, and that is why the sound is produced.

An apnoea is when the walls of the throat come together and block off the upper airway. Breathing then stops for a period of time until the brain registers the lack of breathing or a drop in oxygen levels and sends a small wake up message. The sleeper then rouses, opening the upper airway, typically snorts and gasps and then goes back to sleep. In most cases, snoring gets worse with time, age, and weight gain and is a serious health issue not only affecting the snorer but a sleeping partner also.

We conduct home based testing for sleep apnoea through the Metabolic Health Clinic, which is done in your normal sleeping environment at home to get the best results. There is normally an out of pocket cost of $220.00 which is not rebated by health funds, however the Metabolic Health Clinic will BULK BILL this testing at no extra charge to you.

Contact us today to arrange a screening on 1300 369 469, or drop into the clinic at 1059 Doncaster Road, Doncaster East, 3109.

Falling asleep During the Day ( Daytime Sleepiness)

Often , daytime sleepiness is the first consequence of severe snoring. This is a tendency to fall asleep in the absence of any stimulus; for example, when watching television. The resulting diminished alertness increases the risk of car accidents by 7 times and the risk of work accidents.
